Inspirational Women in the City

Obelisk Support’s founder and CEO Dana Denis-Smith has been named today by Brummell Magazine as one of the most inspirational women in the City.

Brummell’s annual ‘Inspirational Women in the City’ listing is published each September, showcasing the achievements and progress of some of the most successful women working in the Square Mile. This year, the focus is on women who champion diversity and are spearheading a cultural revolution to drive positive change in their sector and business.

Dana Denis-Smith was selected by an expert panel of judges including Liz Bingham OBE, a Partner at EY, Heather Melville, Director Strategic Partnerships at RBS and Birgit Neu, Managing Director at neuchange.

Dana Denis-Smith said:

“It’s so rewarding for me and Obelisk to get this recognition from Brummell because of the quality of the women on the judging panel. The magazine put together a very senior team of judges, and I’m extremely proud and pleased that the work I am doing here at Obelisk, and the positive change we are creating across the legal sector, has caught their eye.”

“I am an entrepreneur, and to create something special, and something new, you need diversity and you need innovation. I recommend every business opens their doors and their hearts to diversity, and the positive cultural revolution it brings to you and your business.”

Brummell, which is known as the little black book for the City, is a luxury lifestyle magazine for professionals working in the City.

The Inspirational Women 2015: City Champions of Diversity listing describes Dana as: “A believer that flexible working is a real strength for lawyers and clients, Denis-Smith founded Obelisk in 2010 to re-engage highly skilled lawyers who have young children or other caring responsibilities. Formerly a journalist at The Economist Group, Denis-Smith applies ideas from other industries to drive change for women in professional- services firms, and was recognised as the 2015 Outstanding Innovator by Legal Week. In 2014, she founded the First 100 Years project, the UK’s first digital platform dedicated to the history of women in law, delivered in a multimedia format.

London-based Obelisk provides professional outsourcing to in-house legal teams and major law firms. The founding principle behind the business is to re-engage highly skilled lawyers who leave the profession to raise families. Through Obelisk, lawyer parents choose the hours they want to work, giving them the flexibility they need to combine careers with family life. By bringing her innovation to the legal sector, Dana Denis-Smith has created a triple-win formula for Obelisk’s clients, lawyers and their families.

In 2015 Obelisk has won a series of high profile awards, with Dana Denis-Smith named as this year’s ‘Outstanding Innovator’ at The Legal Innovation Awards 2015 last week, Obelisk being named by The Times newspaper as one of the Top 50 Employers for Women in the UK and Obelisk being given the prestigious Investors in People accreditation – recognised across the world as a mark of excellence in people management.
